The documented medicinal properties of seaweeds are voluminous. Sea plants contain ten to twenty times the minerals of land plants, so ounce per ounce seaweed is higher in vitamins and minerals than any other class of food. Benefits include reducing blood cholesterol, removing metallic and radioactive elements from the body, and preventing goiters. Seaweed also has antibiotic properties known to be effective against penicillin resistant bacteria. Seaweed is know to strengthen bones, teeth, nerve transmission, and digestion. Seaweed softens hardened masses or tumors, and so it is used to treat lumps, swollen lymph glands, fibroid tumors, and edema. Sea vegetables are classified by colors: reds, browns, greens, blue-greens, and yellow greens. The particular color is related to the spectrum of light available to the plant. Seaweeds share the ocean as a common bond, thus most seaweed have a number of properties in common. The power of sea vegetables (seaweeds) have been drawn upon for thousands of years for their ability to prolong life, prevent disease, and impart beauty and health for happier and longer lives… In Myth as well as in biology.
